Voice and Image Analysis on Photos and Video Saves Time and Reduces Risk

From our customer's use of our platform we're seeing how tagging—especially automatic image and voice tagging—is a more efficient approach to managing your photo and video content. It’s faster, easier, and much more powerful than manually searching for images by name or looking for specific content in each image. Newmetrix’s automatic SmartTagging system gives users the simplicity of doing a “search” for any tag in images or the audio tracks of their videos.  These can be specific terms, keywords and markers like locations (e.g., "Main Lobby") or objects (e.g., "Crane", "Person").  Just like Facebook's photos engine can automatically tag your friends, our engine can automatically tag objects and people in your project photos.

What are customers doing with this power and flexibility?  In this short blog I'm sharing some of the questions teams are getting answered by searching on image and voice tags in our platform.

Are we being safe?

Question: How can I find images of people on our projects that are in unsafe situations (like missing a hard hat or other PPE) and fix these safety issues?
Answer: Search your pictures for “people” and “hard hat” and find all imagery that you need to review.

Are we getting over billed?

Question: I am looking at a bill and need to verify that we were charged correctly. How can I tell when the last time a crane was on the project? Or how much scaffolding was in place at the end of last month?
Answer: Search your pictures for “crane” or “scaffolding” and see the last image in a date and time-stamped list.

Smart Tagging

What images are best for marketing?

Question: Marketing is asking for some “hero shots” to use in an upcoming proposal. How can I find the best image to send them?
Answer: Search for “building” and then tag good images as “for marketing use.” Share a link with marketing to access only those photos in your project set.

How can I use my 2D plans and 3D models for handover?

Question: What’s the history of field observations for the main lobby (or other location), including daily photos and milestone documentation for in-wall, above-ceiling, etc.?
Answer: Search field videos (or voice annotated photos) for key tags that relate to that location and bring them up in a timeline. Bonus feature: Create a link to that search query, paste it into your plan or Building Information Model (BIM) to access “always up to date” photo and video data for that space.

Where is that critical image for claim defense?

Question: How do I find an image to defend a claim?
Answer: Leverage speech and image analysis to find the exact visual media you need to defend yourself against a claim.  Find specific location-based imagery by searching for tags for a specific room and then scroll back through time in a timeline view to see all imagery for that spot.

What can I do with old project photos and videos?

Question: I have a ton of old project content stored on USB drives and company hard drives scattered throughout my company.  It's a big risk if we lose that content - we need to keep it for warranty and claims.  How can I find out what’s in there and what will I be able to use if needed?
Answer: Use our data upload service to get your old content into the platform, then, instead of hunting through thousands of images, use SmartTags to instantly find critical photo and video documentation when needed.

Can I streamline the photo documentation and organization process?

Question: How can I make visual field documentation less time consuming to capture and organize?
Answer: Use voice-tags to speed up the process of capturing video and photo imagery from the field. Then your content is automatically tagged in the system (e.g., "Main lobby") and can be used in other platforms (e.g., Procore, BIM 360 Field, BIM 360 Docs, and Egnyte).
