It’s hard to believe that summer is almost over! In some parts of the country, kids are already heading back to school. Here in Boston, ours are still clinging to two more weeks of vacation.
It's been an active summer for us at Newmetrix, and not just in the vacation category. Here are some highlights:
Strategic funding
We completed a strategic funding round to help drive our work on predictive analytics, welcoming in new strategic investors Suffolk, Obayashi, and JE Dunn alongside additional funding from existing strategic investors Building Ventures and Leawood Venture Capital.
Predictive Analytics Council
Speaking of predictive, we increased the membership of the Predictive Analytics Strategic Council, welcoming in new companies Lithko, Skanska Sweden, and Obayashi. And there are five additional companies completing the necessary requirements to join.
Events
We held two live webinars on the practical use of AI in construction. One with Shawmut and the other was a customer panel including Barton Malow, Hawaiian Dredging, and partner StructionSite.
On the conference side of things, in July, we shared a panel with Ryan Hale of Lithko at the BuiltWorlds Project Delivery Conference where we talked about how analytics has finally arrived in the construction industry, comparing it to the introduction of analytics and statistics in baseball (aka, Moneyball).
New faces at Newmetrix
We made a bunch of hires in the engineering, data science, machine learning and more recently in the industry strategy area. On that latter front, we’re thrilled to welcome Tim Gattie to the team. Tim is a project executive with 20 years of industry experience including time at Sundt and PCL. Having helped Sundt build a similar system, Tim “wrote the book” on how the combination of safety observations and analytics can help dramatically reduce incident rates in construction. Last but not least, we’ve significantly expanded our product set. We introduced a suite of products including Safety Observations, Safety Monitoring, and Predictive Analytics, all of which complement our core enterprise photo and video management platform. Newmetrix is now bringing the best of human and artificial intelligence to help firms reduce risk.

We have a busy fall and winter planned, including participation in the Contech Roadshows, the Willis Towers Watson construction risk management conference in Nashville, the Industrial Grade Innovation conference in Cincinnati, the BuiltWorlds SmartJobsite conference in LA, Procore’s Groundbreak, Autodesk University, the IRMI Construction Risk Management conference in Seattle, and lots of time at the Oracle Construction Innovation Lab in Chicago.
Summer was definitely fun but we’re excited to get fall underway with everything we’ve got going on. I’m looking forward to seeing you all out there during this great journey.
