Reflections on 2017 and our vision for 2018

As we have turned the page on 2017, we wanted to pause to look back at the highlights of the year for Newmetrix and our mission of bringing machine learning (ML) to construction. More than anything else, we are deeply appreciative of our committed and innovative customers, partners, and employees who are committed to our vision of improving the industry with technology.

New Partners & Integrated Solutions

In 2017, we built new integrations with the support and vision of our partners including Autodesk, Procore, and Egnyte. We’ve heard from customers that app fatigue is real and data needs to flow seamlessly between an increasing number of systems and apps. Increasingly, our customers are using 3 or more systems or devices on their jobsites to capture visual data. So, to deliver comprehensive visibility and image analytics, Newmetrix will continue to deliver new integrations in 2018 with Oxblue (now released), Box and others coming soon!

Another highlight of 2017 was NVIDIA’s recognition of Newmetrix as runner-up in its Inception Awards for Most Disruptive Artificial Intelligence (AI) Startup. We accepted a generous cash prize, that was nice, but we were most excited that NVIDIA validated the massive opportunity for AI in the $10T global construction industry.

Speaking of those customers and partners - 2018 is starting off with a bang. Check out our recent webcast with Skanska, Autodesk, and NVIDIA on the power of machine learning for safety and progress tracking in construction!

Both Groundbreak and AU

2017 was “bookended” for us by the great privilege of participating in Procore’s Groundbreak conference in March and Autodesk University in November. It was great to meet so many customers at both of these events where we demonstrated our sub 90 second integrations and presented on topics including Reducing Job Site Risk with AI and Making Construction Smarter Using Machine Learning. It was especially cool to be recognized twice on the main stage at AU which you can see here!

New Customers & Data Explosion

Newmetrix added more than 10 new customers this year and as our new and existing customers expanded their use of Newmetrix in 2017, our data grew 10X! Data growth reflects our customers increasing confidence and success with our solutions, but it also provides us jet fuel for expanding our image analytics (what Vinnie can “see”) in 2018.

Broader Adoption

In 2017, Newmetrix’s customers increased their adoption of our software for progress tracking as video-based field inspections became Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Companies like Skanska and Suffolk demonstrated 60% labor savings. New in 2017, though, is adoption of Newmetrix by Safety, Quality, Marketing, and even Legal teams. Moving into 2018, we’re committed to continue to build new integrations, new Vinnie models (like workers missing gloves or protective eyewear), and reporting to support the needs of all users across the enterprise.

Mobile

While our product capabilities expanded dramatically in 2017 in all areas, our mobile app changed the most. Our great ideas were inspired by our customers’ ideas for making field teams more efficient. We released 8 new versions of our app adding 1-click photo sharing, zoom in photo/video capture, and easier tagging and reviewing of files.

Looking Ahead

As we turn the page on 2017, we’re ecstatic to run into 2018 with great momentum. Keep your eye on our website throughout 2018 for updates on our conference travels as well as new product releases. As a preview to what we’ll be doing, we’re putting a huge emphasis in 2018 on new and improved results for helping companies understand the power of machine learning to help them reduce risk.

As an example, we recently released a new capability to detect if workers are not wearing gloves on the jobsite. Hand injuries account for 25% of all jobsite accidents and now Newmetrix allows you to benchmark glove compliance across all your projects. And, like always, it only takes 90 seconds to integrate your projects and begin to analyze your photo data. With expanded insights, new alerts and reporting, and new partner integrations also in our plans, you can see why we’re so excited for 2018.
